After eleven editions of DOKK'EM OPEN AIR the organisation behind this Dutch Metal festival takes a time-off. There will be NO 2017 EDITION.
DOKK'EM OPEN AIR 2016 edition featured TESTAMENT, DORO, MOONSPELL, PRIMORDIAL, FINNTROLL and many others.
Programmer Jort Visser told Metalfan.nl that after each edition the organisers have a discussion about doing a new edition. Visser adds "Setting up a decent festival is very time consuming. Our core team members all have fulltime jobs or their own businesses. Next to that, you still have your family, we all have kids. It comes down to doing all of this in our spare time, at the expense of other things.
"Change is necesarry if the festival wants to exist in the future. the reason we keep on doing it each year is that we simply can't walk away from it." The fact that there will be no 2017 edition of DOKK'EM OPEN AIR doesn't mean it's the end of the festival. Jort Visser explained that a 2018 edition depends on negotiations with the municipality Dongeradeel about the location and support from local businesses.
Let's hope this Frysian Metal festival stays alive and keeps putting great bands on their stage.
